Mechanical watches were already known and present in Italy in the 1300s, as demonstrated by Dante Alighieri in Paradiso of the Divine Comedy, more precisely in Canto X, in which the Supreme Poet refers to the bells of the monastic alarm clocks of the time. In fact, great figures of the Tuscan Renaissance, such as Filippo Brunelleschi, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Galileo Galilei, devoted themselves to the art of watchmaking.
