The Fortis Spacematic Alarm Chronograph is a technical masterpiece in the history of watchmaking that was considered one of the brand’s flagship models, particularly around 2005. What makes this model so special is the combination of two sophisticated complications: a mechanical alarm and a chronograph, all housed in a self-winding movement. The Heart of the Watch: The Caliber F2001 The most distinctive feature is the movement, which was developed under the direction of renowned watchmaker Paul Gerber. World First: It was the world’s first movement to combine an automatic chronograph with a mechanical alarm. The sound: Unlike many “vibration alarms,” the Spacematic features a true gong that produces a bright, clearly audible chime lasting about 25 seconds. Two barrels: The watch has a separate barrel for the alarm, ensuring that the wake-up function does not affect the power reserve of the time display. Since the F2001 caliber is no longer in production and its maintenance requires specialized watchmakers due to its complexity, the Spacematic Alarm is a sought-after collector’s item. It embodies the era in which Fortis broke new technical ground to stand out from the crowd of standard chronographs. The watch has been worn very rarely and has been stored in a cabinet for the past 10 years. It has minor signs of wear on the bezel and is otherwise in very good condition.
