Watch Overview This is a remarkable timepiece — a highly collectible South Bend “The Studebaker” Railroad Grade pocket watch, dated from 1912 and made in the U.S.A. A true representation of early 20th-century American watchmaking, this vintage model showcases South Bend’s precision, reliability. This open-face, manual-wind watch houses the original South Bend Watch Co. movement, caliber Studebaker grade 223, model 2, with 17 jewels, size 16s, and a lever-set configuration. It is adjusted to six positions, temperature, and isochronism — for a total of nine adjustments. This movement is part of a small production run of only 1,000 pieces (with a total grade production of 5,000), making it a rare and historically significant example of South Bend’s railroad-grade engineering. The elegant white enamel dial features bold black Arabic numerals, a distinctive red minute track, and large blue steel hands for excellent legibility. A sub-seconds dial is positioned at 6 o’clock, emphasizing its classic and functional design. The watch is housed in a 51.7 mm nickel round case with polished screw bezel and back, marked. In very good vintage condition, it shows light wear consistent with its age. Fully inspected and authenticated by our in-house watchmaker, this fine South Bend timepiece runs accurately and stands as a beautiful addition to any railroad pocket watch collection.
