TAOS emerged in 2024 from the encounter between Atelier Olivier Vaucher, the Geneva workshop that has supplied artistic dials to some of the most prestigious names in watchmaking since 1978, and watchmaker Olivier Gaud. The brand’s inaugural collection consisted of seven unique timepieces, each dial involving over 200 hours of craftsmanship, and ‘Kaléidoscope’ stands among its most colorful expressions, a study in stone and light dominated by blues and greens. The dial brings together two of the rarest hardstone disciplines. Roman micromosaic and hardstone marquetry are combined in an Arab-Andalusian motif executed in turquoise, lapis lazuli, and tsavorite, the tesserae set with the precision these techniques demand. The mosaic elements alternate rhythmically, arranged in the shape of a heart around a central, raised relief in mother-of-pearl, itself engraved by hand, while an engraved motif in white gold completes the composition. The result reads as a kaleidoscope caught mid-turn, its geometry fixed forever in stone. Inside beats the self-winding calibre VOP318, produced exclusively for TAOS by Swiss movement maker Télôs under the supervision of Olivier Gaud, with a power reserve of around 72 hours and bridges designed as a canvas for the engraver’s chisel. Each movement receives over 100 hours of engraving, its components individually engraved, chamfered, and satin-finished by hand at Atelier Olivier Vaucher, housed in the brand’s 38 mm gold case.
