Tartan is one of the oldest textile languages still in use, a Highland tradition in which colored threads cross with near-mathematical precision to record clans, origins, and alliances. Savile Row, the London street that has defined bespoke tailoring since the 18th century, gave such fabrics their most disciplined expression, cut into suits designed to endure and evolve with their wearer. The TAOS ‘Savile Row’ brings both worlds onto a single dial, a masculine unique piece that renders woven cloth in gold and enamel. The construction begins with a solid white gold base, hand-engraved before any enamel is applied. Over it, the artisans of Atelier Olivier Vaucher in Geneva layer translucent enamels in shades of blue and grey at varying depths above an opaque foundation, then paint the fine graphical threads of the pattern in miniature enamel. The entire dial is covered with multiple layers of fondant, a rare and delicate technique demanding more than 20 firings at 800 degrees Celsius. Each layer must fuse with unforgiving precision, and the reward is a cohesion that makes every square and intersecting line read as taut thread on a loom. The effect is a convincing illusion of woven fabric, rigorous in its geometry yet fluid under changing light, and it opens the brand’s 2025 trilogy devoted to haute couture. Like every TAOS creation, the ‘Savile Row’ requires a thousand and one hours of work, developed under watchmaker and CEO Olivier Gaud and animated by a mechanical movement decorated by hand down to its smallest detail.
