Lace occupies a particular place in the history of textiles, an art of infinite patience in which thread, light, and air are held together in a mesh of almost impossible fineness. In Saint-Gall, Swiss lacemakers have produced these precious fabrics for generations, refining gestures passed down across centuries without losing any of their brilliance. The TAOS ‘Dentelle’ transposes that tradition onto a dial, a feminine unique piece in which the vocabulary of lace is rebuilt in metal, fire, and enamel. The work begins with hand engraving, a fabric texture cut directly into the dial before it disappears beneath enamel. Over this, the artisans of Atelier Olivier Vaucher place an extremely fine mesh of silver paillons, each one floating in suspension like a fragment of lace fixed forever in place. Translucent enamel is then fired over the paillon mesh, while passages of under-fired enamel build a raised, embroidered relief across the surface. The interplay between matte and gloss, translucency and opacity, gives the dial an ethereal, quietly mysterious quality that shifts with every movement of the wrist. The white gold case is set with diamonds on the bezel and lugs, completing a composition in which femininity is expressed with genuine subtlety. Like its two companions in the 2025 collection, the ‘Dentelle’ is a unique piece requiring over a thousand hours of work, developed under watchmaker and CEO Olivier Gaud and finished throughout, dial and movement alike, entirely by hand in Geneva.
