On the eve of 2019, Konstantin Chaykin welcomed the Chinese zodiac sign of the coming year – the pig. With the Konstantin Chaykin Joker watch, the family of charismatic, eccentric, lovely, sometimes terrifying, but definitely spectacular, creative and rare watches gathered in the Wristmons collection was born. Unique Pig 2019 is another character in this collection that definitely exudes a lot of fun. But there is also something serious in this project – this project later became the starting point for the development of other Wristmons dedicated to the celebrations of the New Year according to the traditional Chinese calendar. The animal’s cute face is pictured on the dial in shades of pink, which is even more unique to the Wristmons collection and provides a provocative contrast to the patina of the bronze case. There is something special about observing the watch being built. It is not just a mechanical process, but a true art in which the meticulous work of the master craftsman is combined with the precision of technical thinking. Assembling a watch is something that can fascinate, inspire and convey a sense of wonder. According to Shēngxiào, traditional Chinese 12-year zodiac circle, 2019 will be the year of earth pig. The color of the year is yellow, so the matter-of-course choice for the Unique Pig 2019 case metal was iron bronze, having natural yellowish hue. The bronze has inherent feature to get unimitated patina in the course of years, so the watch will obtain marks of passing time, as some museum artefacts from Bronze age. Especially for the Joker and other models of the Wristmons collection Konstantin Chaykin developed a double-disc display for the hour and minute indications, as well as a moonphase indicator. In the construction and design of the movement, he was guided by the principles of haute horlogerie, despite the fact that the movement is hidden under an opaque dial. Konstantin Chaykin meticulously finished every part of the movement using classic techniques: perlage; fine longitudinal and circular grinding; sandblasting; hand-polished chamfers; engraving; polished screw, pin and jewel recesses; ball polishing of the pivots; and rhodium plating. In total the module includes 8 jewels, designed to reduce friction, while the moonphase indicator is driven by a wheel with 59 teeth. The dial shaped as pretty piggy’s face keeps Joker’s emotive eyes, allowing owner to track the time in hours and minutes, and smile acting as the moonphase indicator. Additional fixed crown set in 9 o’clock position is fitted with recessed corrector provided for setting the moonphase display. Compare to original Joker design the case and bezel of Unique Pig 2019 watch were slightly modified to make upper lugs looking like piggy’s ears.
